Exploring Life

Geocaching, geocoins and the many roads of life.

This is made up of stories from my caching and my reviewing.  It is a collection of those along with comments and thoughts.  Photos, and maps of some adventures and lists of some of the oldest caches.

Get Satisfaction

For those of you who didn't know, the feedback site changed this last week.  Groundspeak had chosen a site called Get Satisfaction to handle feedback and ideas from the community.  Unfortunately it proved to be a moderating disaster.

Someone asked me why the change, and start over with a new site

After an attack by a person on the website groundspeak realized that they did not have moderating power over the users.

They responded with "there's a bit of a grey area here: this customer's definitely being abrasive, but so far, they're not violating either our Company-Customer Pact. Let's try it this way - I'll contact this person and give them a warning. If they continue to keep going further down the Path of Trolling, I'll talk with the team about banning them. Deal?"

The response  "If this is Deal or No Deal, I take No Deal"

The attack continued, multiple accounts, porn links and pics all over a weekend.  Bumping every thread and groundspeak had no control.  The moderating powers are with Get Satisfaction, and they were closed and did not offer support over the weekend.  We discussed what was going on, and those of us as reviewers just hid our heads.  I received a few emails pointing it out, but even the big guns had no ability to stop it.  Get Satisfaction was taking the holiday (and every weekend off).

So in the period of a few weeks the experiment was over.

User Voice

So now we move onto User Voice the newer system.

If you participated in Get Satisfaction there are few differences.  You get 10 votes..and you can give each item from 0-3 votes.  When your votes are gone, they are gone.  You can call them back by changing your votes in other things, or when Geocaching marks that they are taking action on things.

Here are a few of the newest items that geocaching has marked.

Create a cache rating feedback system.

Under Review - This is definitely a hot topic for Groundspeak. We'll provide updates once we get into the planning stages of a feedback system. - Jeremy

Make a nano cache-size option

Planned - We do plan to implement this new size, though I don't have a firm time line. Although adding the size is straightforward we don't want to break approved 3rd party applications. - Jeremy

An official Stats Page

Planned - We are investigating better ways to provide stats.

More than 500 cache on map

Planned - We're working on a map system that will show you all the caches on Google maps instead of limiting you to 500. This will also work for displaying Pocket Query results. - Jeremy

This one is really cool.. it is one of the most impressive features I have seen in a while. I am sure everyone will love it.

New Avatar

aBlueRajahI got a new avatar this week.  it was time.  the old one was wearing thin.  So it is a day to celebrate.  He is a handsome devil.. forks and all.  For those of you who missed the movie mystery men.. go enjoy a mindless evening.
