I am the village idiot that has a few names. I go by Firennice and by Bluerajah.
Before caching I was splitting much of my time between kids, work , scouts, and yard work.
My first cache was some time before I was even caching. It was in 2002 or 2003when I ran across one in some Russian olive trees near a park. I was at my sons soccer game and wandered off to spend time with my daughter (kids soccer games are too exiting) I read the little note in the ammo can and got interested.
The whole idea of geoaching was fascinating to me. I went out with a bonus check from work and decided to buy a GPS. A Magellan Triton 200. Well like so many others I began to wonder what I could do with it ... more than just carry with me while I was hiking, and with the scouts.
So thanks to some papers in with my Magellan Triton 200 I headed off to the geocaching.com website. Well off I went on the 4th of May in 2008 to find my first cache. It was GC17484 Generic Cache by Jac0b. Little did I know that taking the red pill (My Matrix) would change my life. Like Alice going down the rabbit hole an entire new world opened up to me.
The cache that amazed me more than any was when I went hunting for friend GC12Y1Z Moose It was there. Tucked away in a place that I never thought, tiny. Smaller then I ever even considered. It was truly the eye opening moment. There were caches everywhere.
Then I began to see cachers. High school kids at lunch, people at fences, sometimes I ran into them while caching. Othertime they lay in wait while I went for a first to find. All in all it was a great experience.
Then I got a phone call. The local reviewer sent me an email and send he had something that he needed to discuss. I started to go through my list of caches, wondering if there was an issue. I checked online ot see if there had been a problem, and could not find any. So I called him back terrified that I was going to be told the police had blown up a cache, or some other horrible thing.
I was stunned by the question on if I wanted to work as a reviewer for the state of Utah.
I picked BlueRajah from a movie that I enjoyed, and went on. Then on June 2, 2009 I published my first cache Like a Spider Monkey and then..as they say.. the rest is history.
When I sat down on my one year anniversary of being a reviewer, I had reviewed exactly 5,000 caches. That is a lot of caches. No matter what anyone says.
